The moment we pulled into the packing lot of Hodgepodge Coffeehouse & Gallery, I instantly fall in love. The style of the building itself caught my attention but once I walked in, I was blown away. They say that it’s hard to find a good cup of coffee anymore because everyone is selling it on every street corner. And while that does seem to be the case more and more, there are good places to find espresso heaven and cool atmosphere. Here I’ve found that Hodgepodge Coffeehouse & Gallery have impressed me. I love seeing the works of local artists on the walls. Lisa & Tim's Wedding

This wedding was definitely one of the most memorable by far. I had the opportunity to work alongside Whitney of Whitney Huynh Photography. During the wedding I felt like I was a part of it rather than just taking pictures. It was comforting to have a laid-back and down to earth surrounding. Everyone there was very courteous and helpful. One of the best parts of the wedding was the reception, which was held at the Naylor Hall in Roswell. (They are amazing to the guests. I recommend this place to anyone's who planning their wedding in the Georgia area.) So during the reception, everyone was eager to dance even before the food was served. The elderly couples were just as energetic as the younger crowd.

As we hoped, Nalani and I got a chance to interview Theary Sim, a Fashion Designer and Celebrity Stylist in Atlanta.She also manage Youtheary Khmer Collections, Plus10 Division, Glam force casting & referral co. & Theary Sim INC. I love that I am inspired by another artist. Listening to her stories, her path to success, and even had her heart broken, the lost of her father. She is quite a strong soul and her achievements have reached beyond the sky, which the sky isn't the limit for her. Come on, there's footprints on the moon.

Were you born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia?

A- no, I was born and raise in Oregon. I am first generation Cambodian American. I lived in Hillsboro most of my teenage life until I left to college in Corvallis to attend Oregon State University on a full academic scholarship. I realized that I had to leave the state to pursue my dreams. So I left my family, friends and free education behind and moved across the country to Atlanta. I worked part time, held a full time internship and was in school all year round until I graduated. Now its going on seven years here in Atlanta and never looked back.

How do your parents look at your career in comparison with the larger tier of careers?

A- coming from an Asian American background I was raised in a traditional household. My entire family lives on the same block. So, being the first member of my family to attend and graduate college the assumption was I would get a business degree or go into the medical field. But, my family always knew I was creative and that fashion came to no surprise. They are 100% supportive of my career choice. I'm very lucky to have a family that supported me when I chose to move across the country and break the barriers of a struggling artist. My father pasted away on a vacation to Cambodia, he was a humanitarian. He was always wanted me to excel on whatever my heart desired. So, at the end of the day what pushes me to fight past the obstacles is the strength of my father inside of me.

Do you at all incorporate the Cambodian style/culture into your work?

A- culture is a big factor in my designing process. My heritage plays a big role on how I select textiles and color schemes. My attention to detail is derives from how Khmer culture interprets fabric. Quality made materials are used to in most traditional dancers attire. The designing process has always amazed me on how detailed the costumes were. My family was traditional dancers and I would always watch the process of assembling an outfit. There's a certain way you fold the fabric and wear the jewelry. This goes back to tradition and culture . When designing my collections I always incorporate my heritage in everything I do. I want my clothing to be treated with the same value and pride.

Where do you get your inspirations from when coming out with a collection?

A- when creating a collection, it all starts with inspiration. Most of the time it's never planned out, it just hits me and I go straight to my sketch book. I could be something I saw walking down the street or the way I felt listening to music. Whenever I get inspired I usually lock myself in my studio and develop my collection until its finished. Most artist work differently, but once I have a vision I don't stop until its complete. I'm inspired to inspire others.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your job?

A- I love fashion shows, photo shoots and seeing celebrities wearing my clothes but there's no better gratification then giving back. I developed a non-profit organization titled Pretty Perfect. It's geared toward curvy teens ages 11-17 to empower, mentor and promote self confidence. I want to bring the curvy community together and give back to our young woman and show them that we are more than a pretty face.

What advice do you have for aspiring Designers and Stylists who are starting out?

A- when starting out as a wardrobe stylist it's very important to have a travel kit that has everything that you would need when your working. Anything from, safety pins, double sided type, lint brush, to shout wipes. Being prepared is important. It is the stylist job to create the vision of the producer through wardrobe detail. Develop relationships with local boutiques and designers. They will be your best friend when it's time to pull wardrobe for different projects. If your an aspiring designer, creativity, inspiration and education is key. You are consistently needing to be ahead of the trends. Developing your brand is a statement of who you are. What do you want the world to know you as. Fashion evolves and so should you, find your inspiration and run with it. Designing is a process but if you proceed with passion then success will go hand and hand.

What do you have to offer Atlanta and the fashion industry in general?

A- Atlanta has a lot of offer in general. It's a melting pot for artist and entrepreneurs. So, as you can assume there is a lot of talent is in this city. What makes me different is my background in the fashion industry. I was a model at a young age. I had the opportunity to see this industry in and out. As I got older, I realized that I wanted to be more on the creative side of the fashion industry. So, styling and designing came naturally to me. I am able to take what I learned in front of the camera and apply it to behind the scenes. I represent the company and the consumer, so I know what will work or not. At the end of the day, it comes down to your supporters. You can be the most talent individual but if you don't have a support system it's hard to make an impact.

What legacy do you want to leave behind?

A- I want to be known as a well-rounded woman. I don't care to be wealthy or famous. I just want to effect change in this world. If I can gain acceptance on how one views fashion and beauty, I will have accomplish my greatest goals. As a full figured woman, it's so important that I design to uplift others. I want woman of all shapes and sizes to feel confident, classic and chic. At the end of my journey I hope to have left footsteps that trail my purist to happiness.

Where do you see yourself in 10 or so years?

A- When Im 36 years old, I'm going to be a dedicated wife and loving mother. I am very family oriented. I work very hard now, so that I can prepare and provide for my future family. I have always been career driven, I want to develop a brand that is known for quality, innovation and passion. I never make long term goals because I don't want to sell myself short and cut the journey. As long as I live each day abundantly then I know the possibilities are endless.

I can't stop smiling as I am blogging about my dearest friend Jennifer Chong. She is visiting home from Long Beach, California. We tried to figure out how long exactly it has been since we last seen each other. We came to a conclusion that it's been a little over ten years. I am a chatter box as it is, now imagine cramming ten year of playing catch up in a single conversation. That's a lot of talking. We definitely need more than just an afternoon with each other. I have been following her design art work, her photography, and her travelings for many years. I for sure would love to travel with this girl sometime in the near future. She has already travel to amazing places outside the states. I am completely inspired by her talent & her vision. Over the past ten years, Jennifer Chong is and have always been my idol. I will see you soon my darlin'. Have a safe trip back to California.

An Eventful Month

My December has been quite an eventful month. One of my adventure was volunteering myself as a photographer at the Atlanta Children Shelter. The moment I got there, I felt the wonderful Christmas spirit right away. It touched my heart to see many faces there volunteering their time to set up a beautiful Christmas event for the families of the ACS. I was truly blessed to be there.

I had the great opportunity to be interviewed on a country radio station on 92.5 The Bear, not once but twice this month. I was so excited but my nerves took over. I completely stuttered the entire time. Overall, I enjoy sharing some quick stories and experiences about photography. Jman and Beezy said, "get use to being on the air, we're gonna have you back again." I will be honored to return back to the station.

She mentioned that she orginally wouldn't have been able to get her senior portraits taken; but by fate, she won herself a free session with me. Uroosa may feel honored to be in front of my camera, but I was more honored to capture these moments for her senior memory. 30 minutes into the shoot, this camera shy girl didn't seem to be camera shy anymore; She was absolutely stunning.

So this is the time of the year where we usually ask ourselves, "What are we thankful for?" Now if I had to be very specific with my blessings, the list could go on forever. I do have to say that I am truly thankful for the path that God led me to. I have met amazing, inspiring, and interesting people along the way. I was able to travel to places that I would never imagine myself going to. I know it sounds like I don't set my goal high but with my everyday worries in life, I tend to forget to chase dreams. Although, with a little push and with photography, I am living part of my dreams. Above it all, my beautiful little family is what I am grateful for. Words won't completely explain my true feelings but they are my everything.

For some reason this year, I felt like our thanksgiving have been going on for three days straight now. Day one of course, was the tranditional thanksgiving meal. Day two, was homemade pho. Then today is Day three, ribs and oysters. Yummy in my tummy!

Engagement Session Part 2

King of Pops Field Day

My Sunday afternoon was well spent with my siblings at the King of Pops Field Day. Free pops, live music, a photobooth by my wonderful friend/photographer, Whitney Huynh, and of course the FOOD TRUCKS! We didn't get to try all of the trucks because it was just too overwhelming, a good overwhelming feeling. Our first pick was The Fry Guy. Their fresh french fries were very well seasoned. To dip your fries in, you get your chose of delicious & unique sauces. We tried the red curry ketchup and honey siracha mayo. Next was ThePup Truck which sold mouth watering hotdogs. I had the Chihuahua dog, served with queso, onions, and japalano. Paul had the Polish dog with cole slaw, sauerkraut, and onions. Then to it finish our afternoon, I ordered an ice vanilla soy latte from Rattletrap ATL Street Coffee. Now the best were the favorful pops, we devour the keylime pie, raspberry lime, arnold palmer, and banana puddin'. I think the King of Pops did an amazing job throwing an all age festival and I am definitely attending their next event.

In the middle of taking Jackson's photos, he kept pointing at Australia and asked me what I knew about it. I told Jackson briefly that kangaroos are from there. Then I asked him, Would that be the first place you travel?" "YES! Mommy, I want to explore Australia. Can we go there in the morning, just to see the kangaroos?" "Someday honey...."

This little traveler goes with me on most of my trips out to the midwest. He loves being on the road and doesn't mind the long drive. I love my little travler!

This year alone, I have been wandering off and felt like I've been traveling endlessly, living out of a suitcase. Although, my deepest thoughts are usually on my mind during those long roadtrips and also brainstorming ideas and projects. Now that I have settled at home, I realized that I sometime forget how beautiful Georgia is. Everything about the south is comforting to me. A southern meal, sweet tea, country music, and above all the people with the southern accent....puts a smile on my face. I have so much more I need to discover about Georgia. Gotta love the south.

Post from April: "The afternoon hour drive to Villa Rica, Georgia was something I desperately needed. A quick and simple city to be in. I think I found my secret city to run away to. On top of that I got to capture some memorable moments of Jeff, Jessica, and their six month old babygirl, Olivia. Jessica had the whole day planned out to surprise Jeff with a family session because he is usually gone for weeks on end. He was quite surprised and enjoyed the day with his girls."

I've been meaning to share this with ya'll. In August, I was in Waterloo, Iowa shooting a wedding and then I thought, it wouldn't have been a complete trip without visiting Jessica and Eric. They even asked me if I was interested in checking out Eric's family dairy farm. I swear at that moment they must've read my mind. "Of course I would LOVE to go!" We got up around 6ish, made coffee, and drove 15 mins out to the dairy farm. I was a bit sad that I wasn't able to share this experience with some of the dearest people in my life. My kids, my husband, and of course my darling Jamie. If it wasn't for Jamie, I wouldn't have met Jessica and Eric in the first place.

After the first five minutes, I got used to the smell of the cow manure. It didn't bother me much. Jessica showed me where and how things were done at their family dairy farm. I even tasted the fresh milk. Not bad but I'm not a milk person. Like many others, I got to have my milk with cereal, etc....But it was the best farm experience ever!! I would love to make it out there again and this time with the family and Jamie. Thank you Jessica & Eric for everything!

Apples are my favorite fruit. When I was younger, my mom used to bring home several bags of apples. I remember I used to make apple pies with my easy bake oven. It was actually edible. I love apples, apple ciders, apple pies, apple anything.... I spent the afternoon, turning these apples into delicious treats.

I have to say that, I'm pretty picky when it comes to crab apples. It has to be the perfect little red ones like these, which my mom brought back with her from Mobile, Alabama. Gotta have them crunchy on the outside and sour in the inside.

Ah now on to my favorite dessert, apple cobbler. This is probably the only best thing I can prepare in the kitchen. I think I'll bake another batch tomorrow since this one is all gone.

Sunday Recaps: I slept in of course.....well....I got up at 9am only to lay in bed watching old movies and calling in room service.....just kidding. I was so into the movie that I missed breakfast. Anyways, after checking out, I strolled around Savannah for an hours admiring the city. I always get this feeling that everytime that I am there, I don't have enough time to explore. Instead of a weekend getaway, I should plan a week long vacation. I'll be back Savannah. Christine & Steven's Wedding | Savannah, GA

Man, I love being in Savannah, Georgia. I adore everything about the city, especially the history behind it and the people in it. Christine and Steven were married at the Reynolds Square. The ceremony was full of laughter and smiles. During the reception, both side of the families were all about the southern hospitality. I felt right at home with them.

The Reception was held at the Olde Pink House Restaurant. "This pink-brick Georgian mansion was built in 1771 for James Habersham, one of the wealthiest Americans of his time. A stunning new bar, The Arches, is adjacent with curvaceous doors that can open on balmy nights for outdoor seating. via foldors.com" It's been a while since I had a real southern meal. Oh the food.....makes my mouth water thinking about it. I ate twice. No surprise to some folks that knows me well. I'm a big eater. The service was impeccable. I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I met Danika early this year during one of my boudoir power sessions. Her sweet personality and free spirit makes her that much more charming. I was very happy to hear about her engagement, which means, couple session! I love shooting couple sessions. Anyways, we strolled around Piedmont Park and chatted about everything. So much more to chat about. Their wedding will be in next July 2012 in LA, California.....I'm sooo excited!
